The Times Of India, the state’s oldest and most respected newspaper, recently published an article titled Which is India’s most corrupt policeman?
It comes in response to the report by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Governance, which found that the number of corrupt officers in the Indian police had doubled in the last five years.
The Times piece is based on the report.
While the report is based only on the data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the Times of Indernagar said the number has also been compiled by the police commissioner of the state.
The report also said the police has been using private firms for the purpose of hiring and firing officers.
In July, the Lok Sabha passed a resolution seeking to create an independent inquiry commission (IAC) into police corruption, but the move has not been implemented.
