Three police members and a civilian were killed and two others were injured when their van crashed Saturday in Los Angeles, authorities said.
The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. when a police vehicle collided with a van at a red light near the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and South El Monte Avenue, Los Angeles police Capt. Tom McPherson said in a news release.
The driver and passenger of the van, who were identified as Brian and Susan Pimentel, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The two officers who were in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital, McPhearson said.
The van was not damaged.
McPheerson said there was no evidence the incident was random.
The officers were assigned to the 5th Precinct, which is in Los Feliz.
The crash remains under investigation, he said.
