A police documentary that aired on Israeli Channel 10 has won the title of best film of the year, winning a nomination from the Jerusalem Film Critics Awards.
In the film, entitled ‘The Cop’, an Israeli police officer confronts a gang of young Palestinian youths who have been attacking Israelis with rocks, knives and bricks.
The officers’ film, produced by the police department’s special unit “Lebanese”, has been hailed as a breakthrough film, a statement from the police said.
The department said it had been in touch with the Jerusalem film festival organizers and was in touch “with the filmmakers to express our gratitude and the confidence that they will win the awards”.
It added that “this is a very important moment for the police.
They have always been on the frontline against Palestinian terrorism and they have never been silenced.”
Last month, the Israeli military launched Operation Protective Edge, which it says is aimed at halting the infiltration of the Gaza Strip into Israel, and targeting “terrorist infrastructure” in the West Bank.
On Thursday, the Palestinian Authority’s security cabinet approved the formation of a joint military committee to “fight terror” in East Jerusalem, a decision it said was a response to “the Israeli occupation’s campaign of aggression against the Palestinian people.”
